Have you ever heard of this book?
Well, I have been searching for this book for months! I used to rent it from my elementary school library when I was in kindergarten. It’s a picture book about a mouse and a bear who make a quilt. There are no words at all. I used to look at the pictures and make up different stories in my head – essentially I used to write a story to go with the pictures I saw. The best part was that each time I opened the book I could create a new story.
I am convinced that this picture book is one of the reasons why I have become a writer. I don’t know what made me think about this book so many years later but the fact of the matter was that I needed to find it. I had no idea what it was called, all I knew was that there was a mouse and a bear involved. I googled and googled and harassed my family and friends to try to remember its title. No one had any idea as to what book I was talking about. Months later, after I had given up hope, I decided to search the Chapters website and there it was… Ernest and Celestine’s Patchwork Quilt. I couldn’t contain my excitement!
So, three weeks later I have finally received my copy – all the way from Connecticut! I couldn’t be happier! I’m sure it seems a little silly to some people but I truly believe that one book can impact a person’s life that much.
I owe a special thank you to Gabrielle Vincent – your book is where it all began.
