A few of my closest friends taught me that we make decisions everyday in hopes that they will enrich our lives, in hopes that we’re already on the path to who we want to become and what we want to do. We make these decisions (sometimes taking our time, sometimes without a second thought) in hopes that we will make our parents proud, that we will make ourselves proud. These friends of mine have taken the right steps in starting their careers. They work hard, they have fun, and they do it without breaking a shellacked nail. At first I would talk to them and think, Oh my god, they’ve started their lives – what the frigg am I doing with mine!
It used to depress me to think that I was so far behind everyone else but my friends assured me that every step I’m taking will lead me somewhere, every connection I make, every risk I take, every decision, will get me closer to wherever it is that I want to be. They’re right. Talking to them about their jobs and their accomplishments no longer makes me feel depressed about my own life – it makes me feel proud of them and it gives me hope for my own future. It’s a great feeling to be able to look up to your friends.
Surround yourself with positive hard-working people and see what happens.
Think positive thoughts and good things will come your way.
Life isn’t a race – it’s a journey.
